The theater of the absurd in the Tymoshenko case: attempts to delay and discredit the court

Another court hearing was held in the case of Tymoshenko, who is suspected of bribing MPs. After attempts by the defense to disrupt the hearing, the court decided to move to closed proceedings. MEZI expert Anatoliy Yarema explained what actually happened at the hearing.

On the closure of the court hearing:

“We saw attempts by the suspect’s supporters to disrupt the proceedings and reduce them to absurdity. They called it a show trial and accused the judge…,” the expert said, adding that the defense used the court as a platform to discredit the court.

“When every day is worth its weight in gold, it can affect the course of the proceedings. We have enough cases that have ended due to the expiration of the statute of limitations,” the expert explained to MEZHI about the defense’s attempts to delay the court hearing.

Anatoliy Yarema also explained the seizure of Tymoshenko’s property:

“Yulia Volodymyrivna is accused of a corruption crime, and the punishment is 5 to 10 years with possible confiscation of property. Therefore, in order to prevent the suspect’s property that may be confiscated from being removed from the jurisdiction, it can be seized by court order.”

MEZHA will continue to monitor the cases of deputies and officials so that public attention prevents them from fleeing abroad or delaying the process.
